Academic Excellence

KUDOS to the three bands that attended the District 12 Michigan School Band and Orchestra Festival at Pioneer High School on Saturday, March 6, receiving a "I" Rating for Varsity Band and Concert and Symphony Bands >> details


 Huron Science students won six of the top ten awards and 62 out of 89 total awards, which is nearly 70% of the total awards presented.  See winners!


HURON'S POETRY SLAM
Last night's poetry slam was amazing!  We had 26 poets put up their talent, and it was an impossible job, but we will send nine poets on to the city-wide slam on Thursday, March 25.

Brittany Callahan, Robert Axelrod, Kylie Power-Sullivan, Abi Dressel will join Yaz Schumar and Isaiah Peet-Blakeney, who tied for fourth place, third place Allison Punch, second place Haley Patail, and the winner of Huron's 2010 Poetry Slam, Katie Marenghi!   and These students will compete for six coveted spots on the team that goes to Los Angeles for the national slam. Come on out to the Neutral Zone in two weeks to support our kids!


 Kudos !!  Twenty-two National Merit Scholar Finalists and one Semi-Finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program 2010 >> details and list of awardees.


 On March 5th, 43 health science students attended the Regional HOSA ( Health Occupations Students of America) competition (approx. 500 students) at WCC. Thirty-two students qualified for State's next month. See list of winners !


Huron  Chess Team Best in State!
Huron's Chess Club competed in the Michigan Chess Association's High School Team Tournament on Saturday, and walked away with top honors.  Huron's three teams earned first in the upper division, and first and second in the reserve division.  In addition, a record eight River Rats achieved individual medal honors. >>

 Business Professionals of America (BPA)  Members win big again this year at the BPA Regional Leadership Conference.  Out of the 57 members who competed45 members qualified for State Conference.  We received a total of 96 awards.   This was one of the most successful regional conferences to date! >> see list of winners.


 Kudos to Junior Sunjay Josyula from Huron's Business Department on receiving "Honorable Mention" for his business plan entry into the Skandalaris Business Plan Competition held at Eastern Michigan's SESI Conference sponsored by EMUs business school held Friday, February 12, 2010.  Entries were received from students all over the Midwest in a quest to receive cash prizes. 


 


 

Eleven Huron students place in the top 100 in the state on the Michigan Mathematics Prize Competition 2010. Student in the top 50 are eliglible for scholarships. See announcement for

Ann Arbor Student Home Building Program was acknowledged by LOWES Home store and KOBALT tools as one of the fifty programs nationally recognized for work with young people. The AAPS program was awarded $600.00 worth of tools under their "TOUGH TOOLS for COOL SCHOOLS" program. >> story
